Job description

A leading telecommunications company based in New Zealand, specializing in providing reliable and cutting-edge network solutions is currently seeking a skilled and motivated Network Engineer to join their dynamic team.

Responsibilities:
  • Utilize technical knowledge in network design, system implementation, troubleshooting, maintenance practices, and capacity management.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of carrier-based networks and protocols such as BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, MPLS, and VPN.
  • Apply expertise in switching (link aggregation), AAA (Radius, TACACS+), and secure tunneling models.
  • Work with various network equipment including Cisco, Nokia, and other relevant equipment.
  • Utilize CLI and/or GUI interfaces to monitor and configure network equipment.
  • Perform root cause analysis to resolve complex technology issues, identify corrective actions, and provide supporting documentation for future mitigation.
  • Maintain familiarity with Change Control processes in an operational environment.
  • Adapt to multivendor environments and collaborate effectively with different stakeholders.
  • Conduct testing and utilize lab environments to meet network standards before implementing changes in the operational network.
  • Understand reporting and performance tracking to ensure network optimization.
Qualifications and Skills:

  • Extremely important to have prior knowledge of Cisco and to a slightly lesser degree Nokia network equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience in network design, implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance practices.
  • Strong understanding of carrier-based networks and protocols including BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, MPLS, and VPN.
  • Ability to use CLI and/or GUI interfaces for network monitoring and configuration.
  • Experience in performing root cause analysis and providing detailed documentation.
  • Understanding of Change Control processes in an operational environment.
  • Ability to operate in multivendor environments and collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Prior experience in testing and lab environments to ensure network standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Valid work permit or New Zealand residency.
