Job description

Be the technical anchor for one of New Zealand’s most important national infrastructure programmes.

We are looking for a highly capable Programme Technical Lead to provide on-the-ground leadership across a complex, multi-party network rollout. This role acts as the glue that connects architects, designers, integrators, vendors and delivery teams, ensuring that technical decisions are clear, consistent and aligned across all workstreams.

You will be embedded on-site with the programme team, working shoulder-to-shoulder with engineering and project resources. The position sits squarely between architecture/design and delivery, requiring a technically strong leader who can interpret, challenge and consolidate inputs while providing practical, decisive technical direction.

What you’ll be doing
• Acting as the day-to-day technical lead on-site, keeping all network workstreams aligned and progressing
• Collaborating with programme management, network architects, designers, integrators and vendors to aggregate and validate technical inputs
• Leading and facilitating technical decision-making across a complex environment with tight interdependencies
• Supporting design, build, testing and operational scenarios within carrier-grade MPLS environments
• Translating design artefacts into clear, actionable direction for delivery teams
• Shaping and validating RSVP-TE designs, static paths, QoS models and mission-critical service requirements
• Building trusted on-site relationships with customer teams and ensuring technical clarity throughout the programme
• Maintaining consistency in design patterns, standards and processes across all streams

What you’ll bring
• Strong background in carrier MPLS networks with hands-on experience in RSVP-TE design, build support, testing and troubleshooting
• Good working knowledge of IS-IS, BGP and SR-MPLS (advantageous)
• Deep understanding of QoS and deterministic service design
• Experience with mission-critical services such as teleprotection over static RSVP-TE paths or circuit emulation (highly beneficial)
• Solid grasp of enterprise network concepts and how they intersect with carrier architecture
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly
• Proven experience working in fast-paced, high-expectation environments with multiple technical contributors
• A calm, confident leadership style that can cut through noise and drive clarity

Why this role matters
This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in a major national initiative. You will be the programme’s technical anchor, ensuring the design direction is sound, unified and executable. Your leadership will directly influence the stability, security and performance of critical network services relied on across the country.
If you are a senior network engineer or technical leader who thrives in complex environments and enjoys bringing structure, clarity and direction to large-scale programmes, we would love to hear from you.
