Job description
This role is fully remote from Australia while working New Zealand business hours. (Start early, finish early!)
Our client, a global leader in electronic payments, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Developer to join the team responsible for keeping millions of transactions flowing reliably every single day. Their systems support merchants across New Zealand and process billions of dollars annually.
You will be joining the team that powers the core transaction processing platform, contributing to major system upgrades, new feature development and continual improvement of a high performance, mission‑critical environment.
Why our client needs you Our client is expanding their capability within a high availability payments environment and needs a Senior Developer who can design, build and enhance the technology that underpins their long term strategy. They are looking for someone with deep technical expertise, strong problem solving skills and the willingness to take ownership.
What you will be doing This role is hands on and varied. You can expect to:
• Implement new software features and maintain existing code
• Follow established workflows and contribute ideas for improvement
• Perform peer and formal code reviews and maintain documentation
• Develop and execute unit tests to ensure reliability and performance
• Work with stakeholders to agree on timelines and deliverables
• Contribute to architecture and design discussions
• Provide technical input to support pre‑sales or customer engagement activities
• Report on progress, effort, incidents and blockers
• Work within the client’s SDLC and development framework
What our client needs you to be great at The ideal candidate is passionate about building robust, high quality software. You should be a trusted voice on best practice engineering, comfortable learning new things and confident sharing knowledge within the team. Strong verbal and written communication is essential, especially when explaining technical concepts clearly.
The team environment You will work alongside a collaborative and experienced technical team that partners closely with the business to understand requirements and deliver quality solutions. The team also provides second and third level support across transaction processing, card and host testing and configuration.
You will have regular collaboration with colleagues in Technology, Product and Sales.
Do you qualify? Our client is looking for someone with:
• Strong Guardian administration skills
• Extensive experience in program design and development on Guardian HPE NonStop systems
• Expertise across software design, debugging, documentation, testing, maintenance, performance tuning and architecture
• Understanding of SDLC approaches including waterfall and iterative methodologies
• Excellent problem solving, communication and time management skills
• Experience providing second and third level support
• Proficiency with TAL, native TAL, Cobol, TACL and C
• Strong knowledge of Pathway
• Good understanding of algorithms and libraries
• Solid SQL skills
• Understanding of TCP IP
• Knowledge of at least one HSM vendor such as Atalla
• Strong understanding of intercept processing including DRnet or SecurDPS
• Reasonable knowledge of TMF
• Familiarity with distributed version control systems
Bonus points for:
• Experience working on high performance or high availability environments
• Experience within electronic funds transfer systems
