Senior Technical Specialist - MQ
Locations - Wellington OR Auckland
We’re looking for an engineer with some experience in Development, and also DevOps, Cloud, or Infrastructure to be hands on in migrations around our critical MQ services. We need an Engineer who will both:
The role requires experience working across AWS, Azure, and on premise data centres. It involves working with Terraform, Ansible, TypeScript, Bash, Java, and IBM MQ.
The ideal candidate will be autonomous, comfortable with uncertainty, and both patient and empathetic to engineers who use MQ, but don’t necessarily have the knowledge or time to do the migrations of their apps.

- Help run, operate, and develop automation for our AWS and On Prem IBM MQ deployment. MQ is a high profile service for our banking client.
- Be hands on to migrate applications which use IBM MQ from old MQ deployments to new MQ deployments.
The role requires experience working across AWS, Azure, and on premise data centres. It involves working with Terraform, Ansible, TypeScript, Bash, Java, and IBM MQ.

Here’s a specific list of things someone in the role might work on:
- Configure IBM MQ (via automation) alongside app teams to migrate their apps from deployment A to B.
- Reconfigure an app teams app on their behalf. The candidate should feel comfortable working with Java, .Net, MuleSoft, and other legacy apps.
- Develop and test automated patching for IBM MQ clusters.
- Develop and maintain automation for IBM MQ, the queues and channels, and associated proxy configuration.
- Improving and standardising alerting and monitoring of IBM MQ to ensure applications can get alarms when their apps have issues producing and consuming to IBM MQ.
- Development experience and technical troubleshooting: we will be helping app teams with their application code, and the candidate needs to be comfortable in developing apps. The candidate will be working across languages, often Java, and also needs to comfortable working on .Net, Mule and other legacy apps. We don't need proficiency in every language. But the candidate should be comfortable working across these.
- Automation and Scripting: experience with scripting and automation as code. Preferably experience with Terraform, Ansible and Bash.
- Cloud platforms: Experience with AWS.
- MQ: Experience with IBM MQ
